Santa Fe, New MexicoSituated at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Santa Fe is unique by itself. Patronized and established by Juan Martinez de Montoya, in 1607, this capital city of the state of New Mexico has a charm of its own. It is also fondly referred to as "City Different." At a height of 7000 ft above sea level, Santa Fe is the highest state capital in the U.S. It boasts a rich cultural heritage and tradition, making it a favorite tourist destination. The city buildings are reminiscent of ancient architecture. The Spanish Territorial and Pueblo style of architecture makes the city different and a feast for the eyes. The materials used in the constructions are water, clay and straw and other organic materials. The city is famous as one of the foremost cultural centers and has some of the finest museums and art galleries, displaying artifacts of the contemporary and the classical styles. There are notable sculptures, depicting animals and birds. There are many cultural activities conducted for the tourists regularly. The significance of the place also lies in its being one of the top art markets in U.S, after New York and Los Angeles. The fabulous cultural ambience has encouraged many artists to flock the city, the notable among these being, Georgia O' Keefe. The economy of the city is primarily based on tourism. It attracts visitors, predominantly art lovers, rendering it a different flavor. The natural beauty of the desert adds to the charm and lure. The economic growth of the city can also be attributed to the climatic conditions and the various outdoor activities. People frequent this place not only to be a part of the cultural activities, but also to enjoy skiing in winter and hiking. It is one of the most fascinating places in the U.S. Author's Note: New Mexico provides detailed information on New Mexico, New Mexico Travel, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Santa Fe, New Mexico and more.
