Hiking In Mendocino

Hiking in Mendocino Hiking in Mendocino National Forest should start off with mentioning two National Recreation trails guaranteed to be superb hiking. Hiking in Mendocino can be a day trip adventure or a week long back country experience. The Ides Cove Loop Trail which is a little more than eight and a half miles long located in the Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness which began life as an Indian trail. Hiking in Mendocino along this trail provides water, lush meadows, heavy conifer stands, spectacular views and an usually gentle grade. Hiking in Mendocino along this trail will pass you by Square Lake and Long Lake, both of which are stocked with fish. Then there is The Traveler's Home Trail. This trail is 7.6 miles long and is an old pioneer trail. Hiking in Mendocino along this trail makes for a good day hike on those sunny days in the cooler months. Keep in mind also that you are within a days driving distance from Yosemite and/or Oregon. Perhaps you might want to enjoy some fabulous hiking in Mendocino while staying at the Lighthouse Inn at Point Cabrillo, a fully refurbished California coastal lighthouse which offers hikers the best of many worlds. Forests and beaches, mountains and plains, all within a short drive of the Lighthouse Inn at Point Cabrillo. If you are passionate about hiking, then you are in luck. Close to the Inn you will find hiking in Mendocino which suits beginners or the advanced outdoor enthusiast, all with spectacular scenery and views. Another great place for hiking in Mendocino near the lighthouse is in the Mendocino Headlands State Park. Surrounding the village of Mendocino on three sides, and only a couple miles south of the Inn, this State Park offers exquisite beauty and fabulous trails for every level of hiker. Hiking in Mendocino along these trails you can enjoy three miles of hiking with California's legendary year round access. In the spring you'll enjoy colorful wildflowers or retreat from the heat to a welcome summer respite. Fall brings crisp, cool weather that is perfect for biking and hiking in Mendocino. Winter signals the gray whale migration, and the Headlands State Park offers fabulous vistas for whale watching while hiking in Mendocino.
