Mediterranean Cruise to Haifa and Ashdod

Mediterranean cruises are loads of fun. A great place to visit on your next cruise is Israel. While the news talks about violence in Israel, the reality is that Israel is very secure and the port towns of Ashdod and Haifa are safe and lovely.

There is a lot to see in Haifa, making it the primary option in Israel for most cruises. One of the most popular tourist sites is the lovely Bahai Gardens, complete with the most famous Bahai temple in the world. The gardens are absolutely stunning, especially in summer. In winter, however, the weather is often quite mild, and there is plenty to do in Haifa even in the rain. Haifa is the home of the world-famous Technion University, which has a beautiful campus.

Opposite the Carmelite Monastery, there is a small path leading to Elijah's Cave. You can see where the prophet Elijah hid from wicked kings. If you're interested in art, both ancient and modern, and your cruise gives you enough time, you should look at the Haifa museum. Among its unique exhibits are the Byzantine mosaics and material from Caesarea.

If your Mediterranean cruise takes you, however, to Ashdod, don't be disappointed. Ashdod is a city with a very rich history and beautiful beaches for swimming or tanning. While there are few popular tourist sites in Ashdod, often a Mediterranean cruise that use Ashdod as their port will take their passengers to the nearby city of Ashkelon, home of the famous giant Goliath. Ashkelon has a beautiful national park where you can see ruins of ancient buildings from as early as the Philistine period. If you're lucky, you can take a land excursion to Bethlehem or Tel Aviv. Any way you slice it, this area has some of most important history for a large percentage of the earth's population.
