Interlaken - Blaze of Glory in SwitzerlandInterlaken is a stunning holiday destination in Switzerland. It is the main tourism hub for the Bernese Oberland region in Switzerland and one of the top tourist resorts in Europe. Interlaken means 'between the lakes' which is appropriate as it is situated between lakes of Thun and Brienz, at the foot of Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Interlaken is one of the oldest tourist resorts in Switzerland and it remains one of the most popular spot where yearly visitors far outnumber its permanent inhabitants. The main attraction is probably the magnificent Jungfrau Mountain. However, it also has some other attractions which you could very easily surpass. While the Castle may not be that easy to miss, you should also visit the castle church, the ancient monastery and the variety of fascinating old buildings in the area. Another attraction that comes highly recommended is the open air Tell play. This show tells the story of Schiller's William Tell and is performed each year in the Rugen wood at Interlaken. It has been taking place since 1912 and in the decades that have passed since the first performance, hundreds of thousands of spectators have been entertained by this unique attraction. The tourist city is best known for the multitude of adventure sports. If you are looking for a little intense sporting, then you are in the right place. You can enjoy backpack, horseback ride, parasail and many more freaky sports. To really take in the majesty of the Alps, It is recommended you pay the money for a go at skydiving. You may have gone ski diving before, but nothing compares to free falling down through the mountains of Switzerland. You can enjoy fairly stable and mild climate with simply beautiful surroundings on your Interlaken tour. It attracts a large number of tourists who enjoy Switzerland holidays in the summer with concerts, equestrian events, tennis, hiking excursions and water sports. The surrounding countryside of the Bernese Oberland is filled with mountain chalets, ski lodges, hilly pastures, mountain peaks, glaciers and waterfalls, Alphorn blowers, yodelers and horse-drawn sleighs. The town offers tourists a peaceful base to explore the surrounding areas by train or bus. Make your Interlaken tour more exciting with a ride on the train to the scenic mountains of nearby Jungfrau region, Kleine Scheidegg or to the top of Jungfraujoch. Many Interlaken hotels are located along the Höheweg Avenue which offers good views of the mountains. About the Author: Author is a freelance travel writer Comments (0)
