What to see on your London Holiday

London is one of the major capital cities in the world and is a popular place to visit for holidays. There is much for the tourist to see whatever their interests.

Buckingham Palace, one of the Royal residences, has the changing of the guard ceremony which normally happens daily between April and June at 11.30am and at the same time on alternative days for the rest of the year. This event is popular with both Londoners and overseas visitors.

Trafalgar Square, which commemorates the naval battle that Lord Nelson won against the French in 1805, is another popular tourist attraction. Come and have your photo taken with the famous statues of the lions!

On the darker side of London visitors to Whitechapel can book up for one of the Jack the Ripper walks which retraces the infamous murders committed by him in the late 19th century. This could be your chance to solve the mystery of who "Jack" actually was.

For those who enjoy visiting historical churches there are St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey.

London is also famous for its sports stadiums and arenas. The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis championships are held during the last week of June and the first week of July each year and attract crowds of up to 30,000 each day. If you are planning to queue to get in then it is essential you arrive very early.

The new Wembley Stadium has just been completed and the 2007 FA Cup Final between Manchester United and Chelsea will be the first major sporting event to take place at this venue. And of course the 2012 Olympics Games will be taking place in London.

For those of you who enjoy shopping you will want to ensure that you visit the world famous Harrods shop in Knightsbridge. Additionally Oxford Street and Regent Street are also very popular with shoppers.

If the arts are of interest to you then there are many options available including the National Portrait Gallery, the Tate Modern, Covent Garden Opera House and numerous theatres in the West End. There is a ticket kiosk in Leicester Square in which you can purchase reduced price tickets for many of the theatres. It is often possible to get a 50% discount on the face value of the tickets.

There are many restaurants in central London to enjoy eating in at all ends of the price spectrum. If you enjoy Chinese food then make sure you visit China Town in Soho to sample the many restaurants there.
