Algonquin Park , Can You Canoe?Algonquin Park is the oldest and the most famous provincial park in Ontario and one of the largest in Canada. Algonquin Park is blessed with more than 2000 lakes having names. Algonquin Park is in the center of southern Ontario, three hours' drive from Toronto, the same distance from Ottawa and within a day of New York. Wolves Algonquin Park is also very famous for its roving wolf packs throughout Algonquin Park boundaries, which make the Park one of the most accessible areas in North America for wolf viewing and research, not only because it has been able to maintain one of the most southerly wolf populations in North America, but also because the wolves are relatively accessible to millions of people without having to don special equipment or to go on remote and expensive excursions. Wolves in Algonquin Park use all major habitat types, especially deciduous and coniferous forest, beaver ponds, and spruce bogs. Wolves in the Algonquin region belong to a distinct species, the Eastern wolf (Canis lycaon). Timber wolves, for which Algonquin is world famous, are not often seen but thousands of Park visitors have been thrilled at the sound of their mournful howls. Canoeing Hiking, canoeing and camping are some of the more popular activities people can enjoy in Algonquin Park. Canoeing in Algonquin Park consists of mainly flat water canoeing and portaging. Canoeing is a favorite spring, summerand fall activity at Algonquin Provincial Park. Algonquin Park is one of Ontario's most popular canoeing destinations that's a short drive from Toronto. A typical day of canoeing in Algonquin will include half a dozen portages. Camping Camping fees and regulations are government controlled and subject to change. Enjoy camping, swimming, museums, hiking, learning and picnicking with the comfort of modern amenities along the 56 kilometre stretch of Highway 60 running through the southwest corner of the Park. Use one of the lodges as your base for exploring the Park or just stop by for dinner and a special night while camping. Luckily, with its well-maintained trails and portages, the park offers an accessible wilderness experience to any visitor who has a modicum of canoeing and camping skill, even a father with a sick child in the bow of his canoe. Algonquin Park is Ontario's oldest and largest provincial park. Algonquin Park is home to an amazing diversity of life and a premiere destination for wildlife viewing. Algonquin Park is presently the most important area in Canada for biological research, over 1800 scientific papers having been based on work done in this area. Algonquin Park is the largest protected area for the eastern wolf in North America. Algonquin Park is truly a perfect Ontario Getaway destination. About the Author: Who is John B Galt?
