Whistler - the paradise of winter sportsWhistler, British Columbia, is a Canadian town located in the West Coast Mountains, approximately 125 km north of (and two hours away from) Vancouver. The Whistler Resort is situated at the base of Whistler blackcomb mountain, famous for its superb landscapes and for winter sports activity (especially alpine skiing). This place is so great for winter resort activities that it was elected to be the home of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics. For fifteen years, Whistler has remained one of the top winter vacation destinations in North America and worldwide. The town has a population of only 9,965, but it is visited annually by more than two million people who are attracted by the scenery and leisure opportunities. Besides skiing, the tourists can try other exciting activities such as mountain biking, river rafting, glacier skiing, snow boarding and even golf (for the less adventurous ones). Whistler blackcomb is also visited by many tourists during summer, but most of the visitors come in the winter, when the hills are covered by snow and ready for skiing. Skiing was originally practiced in the Northern countries and it was considered a practical way of getting from one place to another in packed or crusted snow (it was believed that skiing was invented by Skadi, the snowshoe goddess). The word "ski" was transferred in the English language from Norwegian in 1890. Since then, skiing has conquered the world, as it is a sport for all categories and ages. Many people describe the sensation of skiing as the closest thing to flying. Those people can hardly wait for the first snow, to run in Whistler blackcomb or other winter sports location and enjoy that sensation once again. If you have never tried skiing, it is worth the try. It does wonders for your health and physical conditions and -as everyone says- it is a lot of fun. In addition, you will enjoy the fresh mountain air (apart from the crowded towns) and fantastic landscapes covered with immaculate snow. Whistler is waiting for you with great accommodation offers and many winter games for all ages. The winter is already here, so it's time to plan your vacation. What can be nicer than a "white Christmas" spent together with your dear ones, in a cozy and intimate chalet , lost in the middle of the snowy mountains? Whistler is not famous only for the winter sports but also for great accommodation suitable for all budgets and preferences, from the most economical (yet comfortable) lodging to luxury condos where you can benefit of the most satisfying conditions. The landscape is great and you will certainly not be bored: horseback riding, sports, skiing and snowboarding are just a few of the spare time entertainment opportunities. Whistler blackcomb lodging includes hotels, condos, chalets and other holiday rentals at affordable prices. Moreover, the travel agencies come up with advantageous offers that combine accommodation and winter sporting activities. Spend an unforgettable winter holiday in Whistler blackcomb with your family or friends. The incredible Whistler landscape and the outdoors activities will fill you with the energy you need to start a new year. Forget about problems at work and remind yourself of the childhood, when winter was the best of times and you were happy to play in the snow all day long. Author's Note: Whistler blackcomb is the perfect place for you. The town, which was elected host for the 2010 Winter Olympics, attracts numerous tourists every year for the winter holidays.
