Even pandas suffer from impotence

They're cute and cuddly but sadly they can't get it up! Yes, Virginia, even pandas suffer from impotence and nothing it seems can help these furry animals mate. Not even Viagra!

This was reported by Chinese officials who said that the creature's innate modesty may prove to be its undoing. Authorities are alarmed that the shy pandas may soon be extinct unless they have sex soon.

For years, scientists have struggled to boost the dwindling panda population that now numbers less than a thousand. Poaching and loss of habitat have greatly reduced the number of pandas worldwide. The few that inhabit China face extinction due to their celibate nature.

"Pandas, which have relatively low fertility rates even in the wild, lose virtually all interest in sex once they are in captivity," according to BBC News.

Researchers are at a loss to explain this strange behavior. Some say captivity prevents them from indulging in elaborate mating rituals. Others believe they are not interested in mating with partners chosen for them. Still, others say all they want is a little privacy and the attention they're getting from the public is not good for them.

"Who would want to mate in front of an audience?" asked Sally Nicholson of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) on captive pandas' aversion to sex.

"Barely a quarter of adult pandas in captivity are breeding, and the few that do are not contributing to the survival of their wild relatives," added BBC News environment correspondent Alex Kirby.

In the 1990s, authorities experimented with Chinese medicine to boost the pandas' dwindling sex drive. Zhang Hemin, director of the Wolong Nature Reserve in the central province of Sichuan, said the herbal medicine worked but it also made the males hot-tempered that the experiment had to be discontinued.

Scientists then turned to the anti-impotence drug Viagra, hoping it would have the same effect in pandas. Pandas normally mate for about 30 seconds and Viagra could reportedly extend that to 20 minutes.

Unfortunately, that didn't work either. Sixteen-year-old male panda Zhuang Zhuang (Chinese for "Strong Strong") took the drug but nothing happened. Wang Pengyan, deputy director of the reserve, said he had no intention of giving Viagra to other pandas although others believe Zhuang Zhuang wasn't a good candidate.

"You can't say Viagra has no results on pandas. We used the wrong panda. That panda basically has no capability," said Guo Feng, a scientific researcher at Wolong.

As scientists struggle with the pandas' dilemma, the good news is that impotence in humans is curable most of the time. Treatment options are varied and limited by your imagination. The easiest and safest to use is Erectasil, a lotion that helps impotent men rise to the occasion. Check out http://erectasil.com for details.
